An Elk City man was arrested earlier this month after allegedly setting a shed on fire.

According to court documents, 50-year-old Jerry Herndon was arrested on August 10 for the crime and received a felony charge of fourth degree arson in Beckham County District Court.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Elk City Police were dispatched to a structure fire in the 500 block of Patton Circle. When an officer arrived, crews with the Elk City Fire Department had quickly extinguished the fire that was inside a shed.

Two witnesses would tell police that they witnessed a man go inside the shed before the fire started.

After getting a description of the man, police were able to locate Herndon at a community center in the 600 block of West E Avenue, a half block away from where the fire took place.

After being detained, police would take Herndon back to the scene of the crime where the witnesses were able to positively ID him as being the man who entered the shed.

Herndon was arrested and searched, where police say they found two lighters on his person.

His next court date is scheduled for August 28.
