Fire crews worked two separate grass fires north of Canute Monday night.

According to Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka, the two blazes were started by malfunctioning equipment, with the first one starting at around 5:30.

Chief Chervenka said Elk City assisted both Canute and Foss fire departments in extinguishing the blazes that ironically occurred a few miles from each other.

He said there were no injuries and no structures were involved.
