A North Carolina man traveling on Interstate 40 recently was arrested after being found to illegally be in possession of firearms.
According to a probable cause affidavit, 30-year-old Nicholas Alexander Schmidt of Moncure, North Carolina was arrested last week after being pulled over by a Beckham County Sheriff’s Deputy out on patrol near mile marker 15 on I-40.
Sheriff Derek Manning said with the help from the office’s K9 unit who was providing backup, they found firearms in the vehicle.
Manning said Schmidt had told deputies that he was on his way to California, however a GPS map in the vehicle showed that his final destination was Las Vegas.
Court records show that Schmidt received two felony charges of possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
Bond was set at $10,000.
