Weatherford residents got a scare on Saturday afternoon after a bomb scare was called in to local authorities.

Turns out, the threat was later determined to be a hoax.

In a statement released by the Weatherford Police Department, at approximately 1:49 pm on Saturday, police received a call in reference to a possible explosive device at the Weatherford High School. The police department immediately responded to the scene, along with the fire department and emergency medical personnel. Upon arrival, officers and fire department personnel set up a perimeter around the school and out of an abundance of caution, notified residents in the immediate area.

Officials said due to the large school campus and not given specific details of the location of the possible explosive device, Weatherford Police Department requested the assistance from other law enforcement agencies, OHP, SWOSU PD and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.

Once all assets were in place, a search was conducted of all the high school buildings and campus area, and no device was located.

Police announced that it appears this “bomb” threat was a hoax.

The statement concluded by saying Weatherford Police, along with other state and federal law enforcement, are actively investigating the “hoax”.
