An Elk City man is wanted after being charged with one felony count of exploitation of an elderly person after he allegedly scammed a woman into giving him a blank check.

The man would allegedly cash that check for nearly $900.

An outstanding warrant for the arrest of 35-year-old Robert Luna was filed in Beckham County District Court last week after an investigation showed that in August 2022, he agreed to mow the yard of an 84-year-old woman in Elk City for $75.

The victim told police that after he mowed the lawn he would leave, but would later return claiming the check she gave him had been destroyed and that he needed another one. The woman complied but this time gave him a signed blank check.

An investigation would show that the blank check was cashed for $875, and that on the memo line “mowing / carpentry” was written.

An affidavit stated that the suspect was an employee of the man who usually mows the woman’s lawn. That man was able to tell the woman who his employee is and where he lives, which was relayed to police.

As of press time Luna has not been arrested.
