A Sayre man was arrested and charged recently with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – a felony, after allegedly attacking a man with a knife.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Sayre Police, the incident occurred on March 3 when police were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of N. 7th Street in Sayre to a fight in progress with a weapon involved.

When police arrived they found a man holding down 65-year-old Billy Fenton Goode.

The man would tell police that Good was no longer armed.

Police would arrest Goode and book him into the Beckham County Jail.

When asked what happened, the man would tell police that while drinking, Goode had become upset and started yelling at a woman who was also in the home. He was told to stop by the man, who would leave the room momentarily. It was then that Goode allegedly charged at the man with a knife stating that he was sorry he had to do this.

Police were told that during the confrontation, Goode also allegedly yelled that he was going to kill the man.

The victim would successfully subdue the man and hold his wrist to the ground where the woman was able to take the knife away from Goode.

The affidavit noted that police noticed a cut on the woman’s hand.

Both the man and the woman refused to go to the hospital for injuries they may have sustained in the attack.
