An Elk City woman was arrested and charged in Beckham County recently after allegedly driving through the gate of a residence, attempted to break into the home, and also attempting to steal a car.
A probable cause affidavit said that the woman allegedly committed the crimes while intoxicated.
According to the court document, authorities were called to the home located north of Elk City on the evening of February 16. When they arrived they found the homeowner holding 46-year-old Teresa Gordon at gunpoint.
They would quickly arrest Gordon and stated that the suspect was very intoxicated and inside her car – which was heavily damaged – had a strong odor of alcohol.
Authorities were told that the homeowner’s son was home when he noticed car lights traveling through a creek on the property. Later the suspect would exit the car and attempted to steal the son’s car but was unsuccessful. The woman would then reportedly attempt to enter the home through the front door. She would also allegedly bang on the windows, and also attempted to enter the home through the back door.
The home owner stated that when he arrived he noticed that a gate at the entrance of his driveway had been heavily damaged. When he got to his home, the suspect was still attempting to enter through the back door. That’s when the homeowner got a firearm and held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.
Gordon was charged last week with attempted burglary in the first degree, burglary in the third degree, malicious injury to property over $1,000, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage, and DUI.
Bond was set at $50,000.
