An Oklahoma City man has been identified as the suspect who broke into multiple Elk City businesses in December.

That man, 33-year-old Jerome Dallas Hopkins was charged last week with five felony counts of burglary in the 2nd degree and one count of pattern of criminal offenses in Beckham County after an investigation revealed that he may have committed similar crimes in other Oklahoma communities, and also Arkansas.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Elk City Police, Hopkins is accused of breaking into the five businesses on the morning of December 21 between 1:30a.m. and 5a.m. During the break-ins, Hopkins is accused of stealing a total of $16,000 cash from the businesses and also causing property damage.

Through the course of the investigation, ECPD was able to use surveillance footage to capture a vehicle description and physical identifiers of the subject.

With that evidence, the detective investigating the case discovered that other jurisdictions in Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, were also looking for a similar subject that had committed similar break-ins.

Hopkins was apprehended in Fort Smith, Arkansas by FSPD officers after committing burglaries in that community in January.

Court records show Hopkins has since been extradited to Oklahoma County and is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Jail.
