Voters residing in the Elk City School District will be asked once again to approve a transportation bond during the general election taking place Feb. 14.

Superintendent Mike Sparks says, if approved, the $1.5 million bond issue will go towards the purchase of two activity buses, five route buses, and two passenger vans that do not require a CDL to drive.

He said the current fleet of buses are, on average, 20-years-old and with the high mileage on them – they are showing their age.

Sparks also stresses, this is a need for the district – not a want.

Sparks said if approved, the bond would see voters in the district see a $5.35 annual increase for every $100 one owes in property tax.

That increase would not go into effect until 2024.
