Bitterly cold temperatures mixed with dangerously high winds have prompted Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt to declare a state of emergency for all 77 counties in Oklahoma.

Gov. Stitt signed Executive Order 2022-34 on Wednesday in anticipation of the cold front that has brought not only the below freezing temperatures and high winds, but also has caused power outages throughout the state and multiple wrecks – mainly in central and northern Oklahoma.

However western Oklahoma has seen minor wrecks Thursday including a jack-knifed semi truck and trailer on Interstate 40 near Weatherford. OHP Troopers reported that the accident occurred just after 7a.m. near mile marker 81 in the eastbound lanes. As a result, all lanes of I-40 were closed for nearly 20 minutes while crews worked the crash.

No injuries were reported.

So how long will this winter weather event stay with us?

KOCO Meteorologist Jonathan Conder says he expects above freezing temperatures to return on Christmas Day, however Friday will still be below freezing.

The winter weather advisory is set to expire today at 6p.m. The wind chill warning, however, is in affect until noon Friday.
