After a house fire in Elk City that investigators believe may have been started by a space heater, Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka offers the public a few safety tips to remain safe this winter if one is using a heater in their home.

The fire that occurred in the 900 block of West 1st Street on Wednesday claimed the life of the one male occupant of the home.

Chervenka says although an official cause of the fire has not been determined, he suspects the blaze was started by a space heater in a bathroom.
