High Speed Chase Lands Sayre Woman Behind Bars

A Sayre woman was charged in Beckham County after allegedly traveling over 80 mph in an attempt to elude an Elk City police officer.

According to the probable cause affidavit, 19-year-old Erica Lee Holmes was arrested on the morning of November 18 after police reported that Holmes was witnessed by police driving the high rate of speed in a posted 35 mph speed limit.

The report went on to say that during the pursuit, the driver could be witnessed “zig zagging” back and forth along the bumper of the vehicle in front of it.

Eventually the vehicle would come to a stop, and the driver would claim that she did not see the officer behind her. The affidavit stated that a search of the vehicle would turn up a cold, half full can of beer.

Holmes was arrested and booked into the Beckham County Jail.

It was later discovered that the driver had a learner’s permit, but did not have a valid drivers license.

Holmes was charged with endangering other while attempting to elude police, transporting an open container of alcoholic beverage, and violation of a drivers license restriction.
