Marathon Petroleum has awarded $66,000 to the Elk City Public School District to help offset transportation needs within the district.

Elk City Superintendent Mike Sparks says the money will be used to purchase a route bus for the district, however he says the district is not done when applying for other transportation grants in the near future.

Sparks credits Jennifer Hagerman with Marathon’s Giving Committee who reached out to him regarding the district’s transportation needs and urged him to fill out and submit the application for the grant funds.

Hagerman said as an Elk City alum and with two children in the school district, she recognized that the district needed help when it came to safe transportation.

Sparks says the district intends to purchase a 2021 route bus, and that it could be in service by February.
