Residents in Hydro along with surrounding cities are reportedly experiencing a stomach illness that the Oklahoma State Health Department suspects is coming from the city’s water supply.

Residents becoming sick, including school children, started to be reported around mid-October.

The outbreak become so bad, that the school shut down their water fountains in order to prevent even more sickness.

There was even a reported case of a boy testing positive for E-coli.

Public Information Officer with the Oklahoma State Health Department Erick Rincon-Riley says their investigation has led to the city’s water supply.

The Health Department is advising residents in Hydro to drink bottled water or boil their tap water while they investigate the mystery illness in the community.

The Oklahoma State Health Department is asking anyone experiencing symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, fever, muscle aches, to avoid public areas until 24 hours after their symptoms have gone away.
