An Illinois man died Wednesday evening after being involved in a two vehicle accident on Interstate 40 in Beckham County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 5:57 p.m. near mile marker 29, 3 miles northeast of Sayre when 82-year-old Clarence Mason, Sr. of Peoria, Illinios was driving a 2001 Cadillac Eldorado westbound on I-40. Troopers said for an unknown reason Mason would hit the cable barrier and entered the eastbound lanes of traffic, hitting a semi-truck.

Then, the Cadillac would depart the road again to the right and hit the cable barrier before coming to rest in the center median.

OHP says Mason was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was uninjured.

OHP says the cause of the crash remain under investigation.
