Voting sites will be busy Tuesday with the first major election day of the year.

Primary Elections will take place throughout Oklahoma with a wide range of seats up for grabs including United State Senate and Representative positions.

Of local interest, primary elections will be held for two Oklahoma House of Representative seats, one in District 55 and the other in 57. The hotly contested District 57 race sees challenger Kristen Kelley Poisson going up against incumbent Anthony Moore – both Republicans. District 55 will have a new representative with Nick Archer, Jeff Sawatzky, and Tad Boone squaring off for the seat, all Republicans as well. That position is being vacated by Todd Russ due to term limits.

Locally, the Oklahoma Senate Seat has a primary election between Republicans Brady Butler, JJ Stitt, and incumbent Darcy Jech.

County Commissioner seats that will be decided tomorrow has, in Custer County, incumbent Wade Anders being challenged by David Fawver and Jeremiah Trent for the commissioner job in district 1. In Beckham County Johnny Davis and Robert Thompson will face off for the county commissioner district 3 position.

Statewide, there will be two primary elections in the governor’s race. On the Republican ticket incumbent Gov. Kevin Stitt will square off against Mark Sherwood, Joel Kinstel, and Moira McCabe. Democrats running for governor include Joy Hofmeister and Connie Johnson.

Because this is a primary election, not everyone can vote for every race.

The Oklahoma GOP only allows registered Republicans to vote in its races. The Oklahoma Democratic Party lets registered Democrats and Independents cast a ballot.

Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
