Memorial Day weekend is here which means summer activities will be well underway throughout western Oklahoma.

Elk City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director Julie Brewer says despite the city pool being shut down this summer due to construction, Ackley Park has plenty of other activities families can take advantage of this summer.

Brewer said although the pool will be closed this summer, the splash pad in Ackley Park West will still be open, and free, from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily.

Brewer said the 7th Annual Seeing Home Baseball and Softball Tournament will also be taking place this Saturday and Sunday at the 5-Plex Baseball and Softball Complex. New this year to the complex will be the availability of the city trolley, that will be offering free rides to and from downtown from the 5-Plex on Saturday’s when events are taking place.

The Beckham County Memorial Day ceremony will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City.

Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says the ceremony will include patriotic music, and a flag ceremony conducted by the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
