Merritt’s shooting sports team took home the State Trap Shooting State Championship yesterday at El Reno. Merritt defeated Altus in the first round, El Reno in the quarterfinals, Eagletown in the semifinals, and Chisholm 219-206 to take home the title. Individually in the high school shoot, Austin Smith of Hydro-Eakly tied for 5th with a 22. Merritt’s Breegan Barnett was the runner-up in the high school girls shoot with a 24 of 25.
Canute made the tournament as a team but were defeated by Chisholm in Round 1. The Sayre Junior team made the State shoot as well. Sayre dropped the quarterfinal match to Locust Grove, but it was still a huge success being one of only 8 teams to qualify. Individually in the Jr. shoot, Sayre’s Jayden Acuna shot a 21 and tied for 4th, AB’s Zayne Sawatsky tied for 8th with an 18. Merritt’s Dason Harman and Canute’s Noah Jarnigan both tied for 12th with 17s. Individually on the girls side of the junior shoot, Merritt’s Addison Darling tied for 2nd with a 19. Congratulations to all the scholastic shooting sports participants, and congratulations to Merritt on their team State Title.
The elk City girl’s golf team bounced back from a subpar performance on Monday at Cushing with a team championship at Riverside in Clinton yesterday. The Elkettes fired a team score of 359, good enough for an 11 shot win over second place Wford. Clinton was 3rd as a team with a 385. Elk City’s Brett Barnett was the individual medalist, firing an 83. Lillian Rhodes tied for 3rd with an 86. Campbell Rainey was 7th with a 93. Rylee Wyatt broke a 100 for the first time in her young career, shooting 97 and recorded her first birdie in a tournament round. Camryn Edney rounded out the Elkettes scoring with a 116. Jayden Marks played as an individual for Elk City and fired 111. Wford’s team scores consisted of Rachel Carruth and mckinley Elwick with 88s. Chloe Cummins shot 93. Maddy Hada had a 101 and Addison Elwick fired 103. For Clinton Addison Littke shot 92, Kambree Davis had 97, both Kat Meacham and Addison newcomb shot 98s, and Grace Meacham fired 108.
