SWOSU Press Release

Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s new Esports Arena will be the site for the Oklahoma Scholastic Esports (OKSE) High School State Tournament this Friday, April 1, on the Weatherford campus.

Eighty high school students from around Oklahoma qualified for the state tournament that begins at 10 a.m. in the Esports Arena, located in the Wellness Center on the SWOSU campus. The public is invited. Admission is $5.

Dr. Hayden Harrington, director of SWOSU Esports, said games being played include Madden, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League (Duos and Trios), Paladins and Fortnite.

This will be the first state tournament held in SWOSU’s state-of-the-art Esports facility. Helping with the tournament will be students who are involved in SWOSU’s Esports teams as well as students in the video game design option in the university’s computer science program.

SWOSU is excited to have these high school students coming to the university for the state tourney,” Harrington said. “The Weatherford community is also excited, and we appreciate the help from the City of Weatherford and the Hotel/Motel Tax Committee in supporting this tourney, which will be the first of many tournaments in our impressive facility.”

This is the first full academic year that the SWOSU Esports facility has been used on the Weatherford campus.
