It’s been 8 years since Western Technology Center has built it’s satellite campus in Elk City, and according to one official – the investment the city made has paid off immensely.

Danny Britton with WTC gave a report recently to the Elk City Commission about the services the site has provided. He said the site mainly has provided training for first responders, that include fire fighters, emergency medical technicians and more. He told the Commission that personnel from all over the state, not just locally, have trained at the site.

Britton said training on site includes, among others, fire fighter 1, fire fighter 2, auto extradition classes, confined space classes, and ropes classes.

He also told the Commission that most of the classes are two day courses, which, in most cases, requires trainees to spend the night in Elk City.

Britton also mentioned that cars that are used at the facility for training are typically donated – where at other facilities in the state, department’s are paying up to $1,000 each for vehicles for use. He said those vehicles are donated by Haines Wrecker Service out of Elk City.
