Four people were injured when a Jackson County Emergency Medical Services ambulance crashed into a toll booth on an Oklahoma turnpike early Friday.According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol the ambulance was traveling from the Altus area to Oklahoma City on the H.E. Baily Turnpike when, for an unknown reason, crashed into a toll booth near Newcastle shortly before 3 a.m.
OHP said a patient, 43-year-old Dominga Gloria of Altus, and two paramedics, 33-year-old Justin Guffey of Lawton and the driver 53-year-old Dora Handcock of Purcell, were flown by helicopter to an Oklahoma City hospital.
Gloria was admitted and last listed to be in serious condition with trunk internal injuries. Guffey was treated for minor injuries and later released. The driver, Handcock, was admitted with trunk internal and leg injuries, last listed to be in good condition.
OHP said a worker in the toll booth was taken by another ambulance to a hospital. That person was treated and released.
OHP said cause of the mishap, as well as the condition of the driver, are still under investigation.
