Bold Escape Attempt Lands Elk City Man Felony Charge

An Elk City man with a long rap sheet in Beckham County tried to escape from county jail recently, shortly after appearing before a judge in the Beckham County Courthouse.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 31-year-old Christopher Lee Curtis had just completed a sentencing hearing for two previous charges of assault and battery on a police officer, when while being escorted back to the Beckham County Jail, Hurd broke free from authorities and began running down the stairs and towards the doors to exit the courthouse.

The report stated that Hurd refused to comply with all commands to stop and was tased by an official. Hurd was eventually taken back into custody.

Hurd received one felony charge of escape from county jail.
