A broken tail light turned into a high speed pursuit through Elk City streets earlier this month, which led to a felony charge for an Elk City man.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police noticed a broken brake light on the vehicle that was driven by 37-year-old Markeith Demond Tucker. When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, Tucker led police on a slow speed pursuit where at one point he would allegedly come to an abrupt stop causing the police cruiser to strike the bumper of the suspect’s vehicle.

The pursuit continued through residential roads when eventually Tucker would allegedly reach speeds of 70 miles per hour, and run several stop signs in the process. At one point the report noted that Tucker lost control of the vehicle near the Great Plains Regional Medical Center, and drove through the grass near the hospital’s parking lot. When Tucker reached the front entrance to the hospital, the report stated that he exited the vehicle and attempted to enter the building. An officer was able to apprehend and arrest the suspect before he made it inside the hospital.

Tucker was booked into the Elk City Jail and later charged with endangering others while eluding or attempt to elude a police officer and malicious injury to property.

Tucker’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 24.
