Local author Landry Brewer is preparing to release his next book about the Cold War.

Cold War: Kansas is set to publish August 24, and much like his last book, Cold War: Oklahoma, it will focus on the Atlas Missile Program during the 1960s.

Brewer says the idea to write the book came to him while writing his first book.

Brewer says although it would be easy to assume that both Atlas Missile Programs in Oklahoma and Kansas were the same, he says that’s far from the truth. Brewer says Cold War: Oklahoma detailed the 12 missile silos that housed the Atlas F missile near Altus Air Force Base. He says it was a much bigger project in the state of Kansas.

Because of this, Brewer says if the United States were attacked by the Soviets, Kansas and the missile silo sites would have been a likely target.

Brewer says some book signings and author events are in the works, however due to the pandemic, nothing has been set in stone.

Cold War: Kansas can currently be purchased on Amazon.com.
