With sustained winds ranging in the 40s and 50s Tuesday afternoon, two fires that could have gotten out of hand in the area were quickly knocked down by fire officials.

The first occurred around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on property located on the south side of Lake Elk City. Assistant Fire Chief Billy Sizemore says cause of the blaze was an individual grinding on metal.

Sizemore says nobody was injured in the blaze and fire officials were able to knock it down before it spread into nearby fields.

Another non-injury fire popped up south of Reydon in Roger Mills County at around 7:30 Tuesday night, but was quickly knocked down thanks to area fire departments from Reydon, Sweetwater, Berlin, Cheyenne, Strong City, Crawford, Hammon, and Leedey.

Roger Mills Emergency Management Director Carl Billey says the fire was likely started by an electrical line and had consumed 78 acres of land.

Billey said no structures were involved in that fire.
