Active cases of COVID-19 have gone below 1,000 in Oklahoma.

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s daily report, Oklahoma has 996 of active cases of the virus, down 67 when compared to Monday’s total.

Locally Jackson County now has 3 active cases, Kiowa County has 2, Greer County is now down to 1 active case, and although gaining a case over the holiday weekend, Washita County also saw it’s first recovery from the virus. That county still has 1 active case.

Roger Mills and Harmon Counties are still without a reported case of the virus.

Unfortunately there was another death due to COVID-19 in Jackson County over the holiday weekend. It was the second death in that county due to the virus.

Statewide there were an additional 7 deaths reported, however none occurring in the past 24 hours. The state’s death count now stands at 318.

Hospitalizations remained under 200 in Oklahoma, currently at 174. Unchanged when compared to Monday.

When asked if state officials are seeing a spike since reopening on May 1, Public Affairs Officer for the Oklahoma National Guard Colonel Tom Ivester says it depends on who you ask.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
