A Canute woman was arrested in Cordell recently after allegedly providing a minor with alcohol and inappropriately touching the child.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 32-year-old Jamaia Dawn Cress was arrested by Cordell Police on May 21 after authorities found the woman in a home with children including a 13-year-old female minor who appeared to be intoxicated. When later interviewed by an officer, the youth said Cress allegedly allowed her to drink wine coolers and 90 proof peppermint schnapps. She also told authorities that Cress had allegedly “pushed up on her” and began to kiss her.

While interviewing the suspect, it was determined that it was her who had initially contacted police after the mother of the child, who arrived at the home before authorities did, had threatened Cress. The report stated that when police asked Cress her name and address, she refused to answer.

The mother of the child told police that Cress had allegedly taken the minor’s cell phone away from her and would not let her have it back. She told police that she discovered that the GPS feature on the phone had been turned off as well.

Cress was charged with lewd or indecent proposals or acts to child under the age of 16, furnishing alcoholic beverages to a person under the age of 21, and obstructing an officer.
