An Elk City man is accused of hiding in a woman’s car and assaulting the woman.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 34-year-old Gustavo Alonso Garcia was charged in Beckham County District Court recently after a woman claims the man hid in the backseat of her S.U.V. and slapped her after the pair got into an argument.

Police say the woman and the man had been in a relationship, and therefore knew each other before the incident.

According to the report the woman told police after she had left work she noticed her car door was open but did not see anyone in the front or back seat, however she did not check the luggage area in the back of the S.U.V. She stated that when she glanced in her rear view mirror she had spotted the suspect. The two allegedly got into an argument and that’s when Garcia allegedly slapped the woman on the face. The report stated that she stopped the vehicle near a grocery store and exited the car, looking for help. The victim says when she looked back she noticed Garcia had also exited and was walking in the opposite direction. That’s she when she returned to the vehicle and drove to the Elk City Police Department.

The affidavit stated that Garcia was located and arrested a short time later. He was charged with third degree burglary, stalking, and domestic abuse – assault and battery.

His first court date is July 13.
