During the regular meeting of the Elk City, City Commission, the city’s latest sales tax numbers were revealed. City Treasurer Lisa Church says for the first time in two months, sales tax collections for the city were above the $1 million mark despite being down 15% when compared to last year.

Church says online sales is suspected as to why use tax numbers saw a spike in the latest report.

City financial adviser Meredith Meacham Wilson says although numbers look good now, the city must prepare conservatively for the upcoming months.

By comparison, the last two reported city sales tax numbers were near the $800,000 mark. The low numbers have forced city wide cuts including a 10% pay cut for city employees.
