Good detective work has landed an Elk City man with a history of theft, a grand larceny charge.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police were dispatched to an Elk City business late last month in reference to a missing trailer, that was suspected stolen.

When an officer arrived she was told by the business owner that the lock to a gate to the business appeared to have been cut, and a 16’ car hauler double axle trailer had appeared to have been taken from the property.

The officer stated in the report that she had knowledge of 40-year-old Elisha Earl Fite, through numerous previous contacts as having a history of stealing trailers. In fact the document stated that Fire is a convicted trailer thief and is currently on parole for the crime, and was wearing a GPS ankle monitor as part of the conditions.

The affidavit stated after meeting with a parole officer, it was determined that according to his GPS monitor Fite was allegedly at the business, and also at a convenience store in Canute. A short time later officers were allowed to view security footage from the store and it showed the missing trailer attached to what the officer suspected to be Fite’s pickup. Later a white pickup arrived and took possession of the trailer.

Fite was later found and arrested in Elk City. He was booked into the Elk City Jail and later charged with 2nd degree burglary and grand larceny.

Fite is due in court on March 23.
