A Clinton man was arrested and charged recently after he allegedly was attempting to rob a home.

According to a probable cause affidavit the incident took place on Saturday, December 7th when the home owner of the home located in the 300 block of North 7th Street in Clinton came home where a relative told her that he suspected that someone was in the home. The homeowner stated that she observed that the living room door of the residence was open and she could hear someone in the basement so she dialed 911.

The document stated that once officers arrived they entered the home and could hear someone in the basement. Officers began to give verbal commands to the suspect to exit the basement, which he did. However, once the suspect reached the top of the stairs, he was commanded to get on the ground but became non compliant. When officers attempted to place handcuffs on Clifford, he began to resist again. That’s when an officer used a taser on the suspect, and were able to apply the handcuffs.

The affidavit stated that after searching Clifford, officers were able to find miscellaneous monies. Also while clearing the residence, officers observed dressers in different rooms had the drawers pulled out and have been gone through. Officers also observed that cabinets in the kitchen and the refrigerator had been gone through as well.

Clifford was booked into the City of Clinton Jail. He was charged with 2nd degree burglary and resisting an officer. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on December 30th.
