Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Sayre recently received financial help to improve and modernize facilities in Patterson Field House.

SWOSU-Sayre received a $20,000 grant from Midwestern Oklahoma Development Authority to help refurbish the bleachers in the field house. The MODA grant was combined with student facility fees to pay for the $53,000 in upgrades.

In a press release, SWOSU-Sayre Dean Sherron Manning says faculty and staff were thrilled when they found out that they were awarded the grant money. She is quoted as saying, “MODA’s generosity helped us complete a project that we’ve had in the works for some time.”

The field house’s bleachers have been sanded, varnished and motorized, and they’re now handicap accessible and have steps with handrails and side rails Manning says students and campus visitors will benefit from the improvements.

The field house is utilized by SWOSU-Sayre for events that bring high school students to the campus, such as the 200 area seniors who attend the annual Career Fair each November. Events are also held every year for SWOSU-Sayre students.
