The Skinny on Sports

High School Football Playoffs

It’s the high school football playoff team tonight all across the great state of Oklahoma, and you can feel the excitement right here in Elk City. The Big Elks are hosting a playoff game for the first time since 1998. Tonight’s opponent is a familiar one, the Newcastle Racers. The teams were district mates for the previous 8 years. Each team won 4. The Elks finished 1st in district 1, while the Racers are the 4th place team in district 2. Head Coach Zac Maynard stopped by to talk about what he sees from Newcastle….. We were also able to hear from Elk City Sr. Matthew Thompson. He gave us the key for the Elks’ offense…. Come on out to Big Elk Stadium tonight for some playoff action if you can, but if not we’ll have you covered with live video streaming on Bigelktv as well as radio coverage available on KOOL94. The pregame will get going at 6:30 with the kickoff scheduled for 7.

There are 3 other games featuring District 1 vs District 2 tonight. The Clinton Red Tornadoes will play host to Bethany inside the historic Tornado Bowl. Weatherford hits the road to Blanchard. Chickasha makes the short trip to Tuttle.

It’s not just the 4A playoffs getting started tonight. In Class A BFDC travels to Walters. Mangum heads north to Mooreland.

We’ll have some Class B playoff action covered tonight as well. The Hollis Tigers finished 2nd in the ultra-competitive District 1. Their reward is a home game tonight against the Cherokee Chiefs. Hollis comes in with a 7-2 record, while Cherokee ended the regular season 4-6. If you can’t make it to Hollis tonight, no worries we’ll have live video streaming on paragontv.com. The Pregame gets started around 6:45 with the kickoff to come at 7.

MVG’s back in the Class C playoffs. The Tigers will welcome Buffalo tonight for a first-round tilt.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

We’ll also have some high school hardwood action available tonight on Paragontv.com. Leedey hits the road to Cheyenne, Canute hosts Sentinel, Hammon’s at Erick, and AB heads north to Arnett. All 4 will be girls and boys doubleheaders. All 4 will tip at 6:30 on paragontv.com

THUNDER HOST TORONTO

The Ok City Thunder are in action tonight inside the Paycom Center with the Toronto Raptors in town. OKC’s lost their last 4 while the Raps come in winners of 4 of their last 6. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s started the season on fire for the Thunder. SGA’s pouring in a shade under 32 a night and shooting over 53% from the field. You can hear Thunder/Raptors tonight on 98.1fm and 1240 am. Pregame gets started at 5:30 ahead of the 7:00 tip.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEKEND

Both in-state schools are back on the Big 12 gridiron this weekend. Oklahoma’s at Morgantown to face West Virginia. The Sooners are 5-4 still in search of that elusive sixth win for bowl eligibility. The Mountaineers are only 3-6, but they’ve been a tough out at home with an upset of Baylor and nearly knocking off #4 TCU. Oklahoma’s a perfect 9-0 against West Virginia since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 back in 2012. You can hear Oklahoma/West Virginia tomorrow morning on KOOL94. The Pregame gets going at 9 with the kickoff scheduled for 11.
The Ok State Cowboys are back at it inside Boone Pickens Stadium with Iowa St in town. The Pokes have lost 3 of 4 while the Cyclones are coming from a win last week that snapped a 5-game losing skid. OSU must win tomorrow to have any hope of remaining in the fight for a Big 12 Championship game appearance. The kickoff between the Cowboys and the Cyclones is tomorrow at 2:30.
