Two men were arrested and charged in Custer County recently after allegedly shooting a rifle out of a truck in Weatherford city limits.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 24-year-old Omar Alejandro Gonzalez of Weatherford and 25-year-old Jose Elizondo of San Benito, Texas were arrested on the night of September 13 after reports of gunfire heard in the area of the 600 block of West Oklahoma Avenue.

Responding officers would get a description from citizens of a truck that was driving in the area that was believed to be the source of the alleged gunfire. Officers would eventually locate the truck and make a traffic stop in the 700 block of North 7th Street.

There officers would find the suspects with a rifle and empty shell casings in the truck. Officers would also find empty beer bottles, and would note that after talking to the driver of the vehicle, Elizondo, that an alcoholic smell emitted from his person.

Court records show that Gonzalez was charged on September 15 with one felony count of use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon, possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction due to the fact of Gonzalez being convicted of a prior felony, carrying a firearm while under the influence and obstruction.

Elizondo was charged on the same day with one felony count of use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon, carrying a firearm while under the influence, and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

A preliminary hearing for both suspects has been scheduled for October 22.
