Monday kicked off the 11th annual Students Against Hunger Food and Fund Drive, which helps feed hungry Beckham and Custer County residents.
The food and fund drive runs from September 28th through November 13th and donations raised will benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s partner agencies in Beckham and Custer County.
Angie Gaines Doss is the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
Students are encouraged to raise funds and bring non-perishable food donations to help the Regional Food Bank, and its partner agencies, reach their goal of providing at least 500,000 meals to hungry Oklahomans this winter.
Doss says the Students Against Hunger Food and Fund Drive is presented by the Oklahoma County Bar Association – Young Lawyers Division, Devon Energy Corporation and Chesapeake Energy Corporation.
She says it’s easy for parents to help their school students.
And, she says, it’s easy to get the food to school, too.
Last year, Doss says, the Students Against Hunger Food and Fund Drive raised nearly 140,000 pounds of food and $75,000 — enough to provide the equivalent of 490,000 meals for chronically hungry children, seniors and hardworking families.  Statewide, more than 180 schools participated.
And, she says, area residents without a school-age child can help, too!
The Regional Food Bank is the largest, private hunger-relief organization in the state of Oklahoma.
