After wrecking his vehicle, and leaving the scene – a Clinton man was arrested and charged with, among other things, driving a vehicle while under the influence and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 60-year-Robert Crumb was arrested and booked into the Custer County Jail on August 4 after being evaluated at AllianceHealth Clinton for injuries he may have sustained in the accident.

According to the affidavit, Clinton Police along with troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover accident that afternoon near Exit 69 on Interstate 40.

When authorities arrived they found the vehicle but no occupant was inside, or around the vehicle. A witness would tell authorities that after the crash a man, later identified as being the defendant, had left the scene on foot.

Crumb was later located where he would tell police that he was returning from a job in Hydro, and had one beer before driving. It was discovered that Crumb had a suspended license.

A search of the vehicle would turn up, among other things, a pipe with residue inside of it, and a pill container holding a crystal-like substance that resembled methamphetamine.

The affidavit said that while being evaluated at the hospital, Crumb would fail several sobriety tests.

Along with the driving under the influence and possession charges, Crumb would also be charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving damage and driving with a suspended license.

Crumbs’ first court date is scheduled for August 26.
