Prescription Drug Take Back Event Coming to Elk City

October 21, 2022

Press Release

The Beckham County Drug Prevention Coalition, the Elk City Police Department and Red Rock Behavioral Health will take part in the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day October 29th at the Arrowhead Center in Elk City from 10am to 2pm.

The Coalition is encouraging everyone to check their medicine cabinets and collect any unused or expired medications and drop them off at the drive-thru event. This is an effective way to prevent accidental poisoning and overdose deaths. All collected medications are disposed of by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Free Prescription Medication Lock Boxes will be available. Keeping meds out of the hands of small children, those with special needs, and persons who might steal the meds for sales or abuse is the right thing to do. However, most households keep medications on a counter top or in an unlocked cabinet. It only takes a moment for a disaster to happen.

If you are out and about on the 29th but forget your medications, there will be free At-Home Disposal Kits to take away. Environmentally friendly, easy to use and effective within minutes, these kits allow you to render any medication harmless and safe to put in the trash.

Please come by the Arrowhead Center in Elk City on October 29th between 10am and 2pm to pick up these free resources and drop off your unused or expired medications. For more information, please contact Steve Berry at 580-562-5043.

The Beckham County Drug Prevention Coalition is funded by a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the SAMHSA, and the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. The grant administrator is South Western OK Development Authority in Burns Flat. Please follow the Coalition on Facebook by searching: drugpreventionbeckham

There will also be a take back event in Cordell at the Judah House from 10-2. That event is sponsored by the Washita County Coalition, and Red Rock Behavioral Health.
