Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission Awards Grants to Area Schools

It was announced recently that fifty-six Oklahoma schools and programs are getting thousands of dollars to help pay for their STEM curriculum that focuses on aeronautics and aviation.

Two of those programs are in western Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission announced that Clinton High School was awarded $1,000 to help kick start the “You Can Fly” curriculum. Based on a description from the latest Commission meeting, Clinton High plans to introduce high school STEM students to the aviation industry through a series of activities and industry field trips with a goal of implementing the AOPA “You Can Fly” curriculum in the 2023-2024 academic school year.

It was also announced that Weatherford Public Schools has been awarded a $12,500 grant from the Commission to help fund the new aeronautics curriculum at Weatherford High School. The agenda stated that the “Eagle Aviation Program” for K – 12th grades that will expose all grade levels to aviation & aerospace. Weatherford High School will implement AOPA curriculum, middle school students will implement PLTW curriculum, and elementary students will read books about aviation and participate in hands-on activities.

Other programs receiving funding include Altus High School receiving $6,800 and STARBASE Oklahoma, an after school STEM program for area schools receiving $25,000.
