Two separate wrecks in Custer County Tuesday were both criminally involved.

The first took place in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at mile marker 65 near Clinton when, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2014 Dodge Caravan driven by 42-year-old Norman resident Clayton Powell passed a 2008 Victory motorcycle driven by 47-year-old Dondae D. Settles of Ontario, California on the right side. Powell would then allegedly cut left in front of the motorcycle, impacting it and causing the driver to lay the motorcycle over. OHP said Powell would flee the scene and eventually be pursued by Beckham County Sheriff’s Deputies along with OHP troopers until a TVI maneuver was performed near the Oklahoma / Texas state line.

OHP said Settles was airlifted to OU Medical Center and admitted in fair condition with trunk external, arm and leg injuries.

The second wreck occurred just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, on the 65A westbound on-ramp of I-40 near Clinton when troopers say 27-year-old Robert J. Hanson of Sweetwater was being pursued by Clinton Police while riding a 1997 Harley Davidson. Officials said Hanson departed the road to the right, struck a guard rail and overturned a quarter time.

OHP said Hanson was transported to Alliance Health in Clinton where he was admitted in fair condition with arm, leg, trunk internal and external injuries. A passenger on the motorcycle, 19-year-old Jazmine A. Wilson of Wheeler, Texas was also admitted in fair condition with arm, leg trunk internal and external injuries.
