Recently Detectives with the Elk City Police Department trained to increase their knowledge base in investigating Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) and became three of the newest members of the Oklahoma ICAC Task Force.

Announced in a press release from the Elk City Police Department, ECPD has been a member of the Task Force since 2014 with one Detective trained in these types of crimes and now the department has three. Assistant Chief John Cook said many more hours of training will be required but a good base knowledge is now established and will benefit not only the children of Elk City but also the State of Oklahoma.

Cook said the need for this has become apparent with the use of technology and the way that cellular phones and social media is a huge part of our lives. This membership in the Task Force will allow training of the highest caliber, increasing the department’s resources, and contacts with Investigators all over the United States and the world to combat the sexual exploitation of children.

The press release said that detectives will now specialize in different aspects of these types of investigations which will require training all over the United States, fortunately this training will be at the expense of the Task Force who operates on Federal Funds. The Task Force is one of 61 regional task forces throughout the United States. The Oklahoma Task Force is hosted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations and is comprised of over 50 partners to include State, Federal and local Law Enforcement Agencies.
