An Elk City man was arrested and charged recently after being accused of abusing and holding his wife against her will.
According to a probable cause affidavit 42-year-old John Floyd Hammond was arrested on December 16 after the victim had reported to Elk City Police of the alleged abuse.
According to the court document the victim would tell police that the defendant had assaulted her on multiple occasions between December 9 and December 16 that included the man choking the woman, hitting her with a TV still in the box, and at one point not allowing the woman to leave the home.
While interviewing the woman, police also discovered that Hammond had gotten into an argument with her teenage son in late November and had punched the 14-year-old in the mouth.
Later that day, police would speak with Hammond about the incident at the home. While there police would note that they found evidence that supported the woman’s claims of abuse.
Hammond was arrested a short time later.
The next day the victim would contact police again, saying that while moving the defendant’s belongings to his truck, she had allegedly found illegal drugs and various drug paraphernalia. Police would come to the scene and allegedly find the illegal substances that included methamphetamine, marijuana, a pipe, and scales.
Hammond was formally charged last week with one count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation, kidnapping, domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon and three separate misdemeanor drug charges
Bond for Hammond was denied by a Beckham County Judge.
His next court date is scheduled for January 24.
