During the latest Elk City Commissioner’s meeting on Tuesday night, the Commission approved to surplus items the city previously owned.

However unlike surplussed items in the past that usually consists of vehicles with high miles and office equipment, these items are unique, and could present an opportunity for those interested in purchasing them.

City Manager Tom Ivester described the three items to the Commission, with the first being bricks that were once used, among other things, to layer roads in Elk City. He said there are tens of thousands of these unique bricks that the public could obtain and use for different projects.

Although nothing was finalized as to how the bricks would be sold and distributed, it was mentioned that only those with an Elk City address would be allowed to buy the bricks – and that buyer would possibly have to submit a plan to the city describing what they plan to do with the bricks.

Ivester said the other two items the Commission approved to surplus include a vacant building located at 102 N. Main Street and the train depot in front of 320 S. Main. He said that both properties have garnered interest but says anyone who purchases the buildings are required to submit development plans for the locations.

No word on when the items would go up for bid to the public.
