The incident took place on June 11 when, according to a probable cause affidavit for arrest, 31-year-old Justin Knute Haugen was dropped of at a home in rural Custer County. They also reported that the man may have stayed the night in the shed behind their home.

When the woman woke on June 12, she discovered that her vehicle was missing. She told authorities that the keys to the car were in the home, and the only way Haugen would be able to take them, was to break into the home. When asked if he was on any kind of narcotics due to his erratic behavior, Haugen allegedly admitted that he had used methamphetamine the day prior.

Haugen was booked into the Custer County Jail and received a first degree burglary charge along with an unauthorized use of a vehicle charge.

His first court date is scheduled for July 2.
