Clinton Police arrived just in time to stop a home invasion from taking place.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 28-year-old Lorenzo Hipolito Cruz was arrested on the evening of August 13 after allegedly breaking in a door to a home located in the 600 block of North Sixth Street and attempting to enter while the homeowner was inside.

The affidavit also said that Cruz was combative towards officers during the arresting process.

The court document said that police were called to the residence in reference to a man breaking windows. When they arrived, they found the defendant and told him to get on the ground. Cruz allegedly resisted and had to be forced to the ground by police before being arrested and placed into a patrol car – where police said he continued to be combative during the process.

While speaking with police, the homeowner said Cruz arrived at his home and told him to come outside. The homeowner said Cruz would proceed to break two windows before grabbing a concrete statue to break open the front door.

Police would arrive on scene before Cruz was able to enter the home.

Cruz was charged with one felony count of attempted first degree burglary and resisting an officer.

A preliminary hearing for Cruz has been scheduled for September 23.
