A 19-year-old Clinton man was arrested last week after allegedly possessing child pornography, extortion, and violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

According to a report from the Clinton Daily News, Caulan Miskel was arrested on October 4 after an investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly sent messages from a social media account to an underage girl attempting to extort her for explicit pictures. The victim would tell police that she did not know who the person was trying to extort her.

She would tell a Clinton police detective that the individual told her that he had hacked her account, had explicit photos of her, and demanded she send more explicit photos or he would leak the pictures along with her personal information.

The report would say that the detective found that the social media account was fake and had found evidence that the owner had attempted the same crimes to others.

The detective was able to locate the I.P. address that the messages were originating from and was able to determine that the messages were coming from a Clinton home.

There, police served a warrant at the home where they would detain Miskel. According to the report, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s internet crimes against children task force assisted with the case. Clinton police said that after conducting a forensic investigation of the suspect’s cellphone, they found child exploitation material and evidence of the extortion. Police say that they still have other devices to conduct forensic searches on, and that they believe that there are other victims.

Miskel was arrested that same day. His bond was set at $25,000.

As of press time, charges against Miskel are pending. Police said the case is still under investigation.
