A Weatherford detective indicted by an Oklahoma grand jury for allegedly stealing pills from an evidence room has turned himself in.
According to court records, 39-year-old Jeremy Anderson surrendered himself to the Custer County Sheriff’s Department after being formally charged yesterday in Custer County District Court with one felony count of larceny of a controlled dangerous substance and a misdemeanor charge of willful neglect to perform a duty.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation began their investigation on September 9, 2021 after a substantial quantity of drugs, namely Fentanyl, was discovered missing from the evidence room of the Weatherford Police Department.
The court document stated that on or about February 26, 2021 through September 9, 2021 Anderson allegedly took 99 tablets from the evidence room.
After a lengthy investigation, the case was presented to the Oklahoma Multi-County Grand Jury on April 12, 2022, where indictments for both charges were handed down by the Grand Jury and were filed on Tuesday.
The affidavit indicated that the Weatherford Police Department, along with the District 2 Drug Task Force assisted OSBI in its investigation.
Anderson was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
His first court date, a preliminary hearing conference, is scheduled to take place July 8.
