A Weatherford man was arrested last month after allegedly hiding a camera in a public restroom.
According to the probable cause affidavit, 38-year-old Carson Grady Guthrie is accused of the crime after co-workers found the camera in their place of business in Thomas. The court document stated Thomas police were called on November 11 after the camera was found under a sink in the restroom.
The report said the small camera was pointed at the toilet.
When the police chief arrived, he interviewed each employee of the business separately. He was told by one employee that she noticed suspicious behavior by Guthrie a couple days earlier where he would photograph another female employee from behind without her knowledge. She said a similar incident would happen again on the day of the crime. Later the employee would tell authorities that while attempting to go into the bathroom, she would find the suspect on his knees in the room – with the lights off. Finding this odd, she told police that she investigated the bathroom to try to find out why the suspect was on his knees, there she would find the small camera.
During an interview with police, Guthrie would allegedly confess that he did in fact plant the camera, and had destroyed the memory card to the device saying that he thought the card may have evidence on it.
Guthrie was placed under arrest and transported to the Custer County Jail.
He was charged on November 15 with one felony count of peeping tom with photographic electronic equipment. Bond for Guthrie was set at $30,000.
A preliminary hearing for Guthrie has been scheduled for December 17.
