Pedestrian Hit in Roger Mills County

A Canadian, Texas woman is in critical condition after being his by a pickup in Roger Mills County early Saturday morning.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday on OK-37, 7 miles west of Hammon when a 2002 Ford F-150 struck 39-year-old Christina Ruiz as she was walking westbound in the middle of the road.

OHP said Ruiz was transported first to Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City before being transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she was admitted in critical condition with head injuries.

Both the driver of the pickup and a passenger were not injured in the mishap.

In other traffic news, both eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 were closed for roughly 30 minutes Saturday night due to a vehicle fire.

According to OHP Troopers, the incident occurred just before 8 p.m. at mile marker 83 near Weatherford. There were no reported injuries. No word on what caused the vehicle to catch fire.
