The cause of a house fire in Elk City last week has been ruled as being an arson by the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office.

According to the Elk City Police Department, three juveniles have confessed to the crime.

In a press release issued by the ECPD, the fire took place on September 16 when emergency personnel responded to the area of Sunset Circle. As officers from the ECPD arrived on the scene of the unoccupied residence, several items were visible to them indicating that the home may have been set on fire intentionally.

The press release said that an investigation was launched by the police department in cooperation with the State Fire Marshal’s Office a short time later. As the joint investigation continued, it was determined that the cause was indeed arson.

The joint investigation led to the apprehension of the three juveniles, where they allegedly admitted to the crime.

ECPD says the Office of Juvenile Affairs will be handling the case once reports are completed.
