An arrest warrant was issued last week for a Hinton man after being charged with second degree rape.

The charge came down last week after an investigation revealed that the man had allegedly been in an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

According to court records, 20-year-old John Keith Charboneau Junior was charged in Beckham County District Court and as of press time, is still at large. The probable cause affidavit revealed that after receiving a cybertip, Elk City Police began investigating the possible inappropriate relationship in October 2021.

After making contact with the victim’s father, and receiving written consent, police were able to search the teen’s cell phone and determine that Charboneau and the teen were in contact by way of social media. During a forensic interview, the victim would tell police that he had allegedly told her that he was 16, and was living in Hammon with his mother.

The victim was able to identify Charboneau in photographs provided to her by police.

Detectives were able to determine that the defendant was in fact 20, was living in Elk City at the time of the crimes, and working at a fast food restaurant.

Earlier this month, Elk City Police would post a picture of the suspect on social media, asking the public’s help to locate Charboneau. A day later the defendant would make contact with police where he said he would make arrangements to come to the police department – however he never arrived, and remains at large.
